We are living in an increasingly connected world – constantly reachable through our mobile phones, tablets, PCs, and even cameras. And as mobile data has skyrocketed, the buzz word has been “the cloud”: that intangible place where users can go to easily access their multimedia content.
But reality is that “the cloud” is not an imaginary space in the stratosphere. It’s made up of data centers all over the world that store each Facebook picture uploaded, each Google search recorded, and a lot more.
Samsung Semiconductor has been examining the strain on data centers with the surge in mobile computing, as well as the impact on the environment caused by excessive energy consumption needed to power those data centers. To address these challenges, Samsung’s Green Memory was a topic of discussion among industry insiders at VMWorld and at last week’s Intel Developer Forum.
