As you may recall, I’ve been talking about transparent LCD technology for some time now, and I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you. Samsung has just begun mass producing a 22-inch transparent LCD. We are proud to be the world’s first company to introduce this technology into the marketplace. It does not require a backlight, using ambient light from the surroundings. It operates at such low power that a small solar cell can power the entire display. As our long involvement with the technology suggests, Samsung believes that transparent LCDs will ultimately become one the cornerstones of real-time communication and information.
Transparent LCDs have the potential to change the way we interact with our surroundings – from turning store-front displays, showcase events into compelling multi-dimensional touch screens, to eventually learning about breaking news, your personal schedule and even your friend’s latest Facebook update on the windows in your home. Something out of a sci-fi movie? Yes, but we’re closer than you think.
